ITIL: ITIL, formally an acronym for Information Technology Infrastructure Library, is a set of detailed practices for IT service management (ITSM) that focuses on aligning IT services with the needs of business. Created by the UK Government it is perhaps the single biggest unification of language in the realm of Information Technology. Loved my most, loathed by some, it remains the most widely accepted standard for the IT industry.

ITSM: ITSM refers to the entirety of activities – directed by policies, organised and structured in processes and supporting procedures – that are performed by an organisation to plan, design, deliver, operate and control information technology (IT) services offered to customers.
